Our side has an additional reason to rely on Guterres Framework as this was drafted by the UN Secretary-General in Switzerland last year, because for the first time the United Nations in a clear manner identified the solution of the Cyprus problem as a process that would lead to the evolution of the island into a regular state, without foreign guarantees and interventions and without foreign armies, Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromos has said.

UN urges the parties in Cyprus to resume negotiations

A UN Secretary General Spokesman stressed Friday the need for the parties in Cyprus to come back to the negotiating table, during a regular media briefing at the UN headquarters in New York. Invited to comment on statements of a spokesperson of the Turkish foreign ministry that is not possible to reach a federal solution in Cyprus, Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq said that the UN would not respond to all of the rhetoric from different officials.

UN Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations to visit Cyprus next week

The Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Bintou Keita, will visit Cyprus from 9-11 May, a UN Secretary – General Spokesman told journalist on Friday. During a media briefing at the UN headquarters in New York, Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq said that Keita will travel to Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 6-8 May to attend the UN Kosovo Trust-building Forum and will then visit Cyprus.

Cyprus and Greece FMs meet in Nicosia to discuss Cyprus issue, EU-Turkey relations, bilateral ties

The Foreign Ministers of Cyprus and Greece, Nicos Christodoulides and Nikos Kotzias will meet on Monday in Nicosia to discuss bilateral relations, the Cyprus problem, EU – Turkey relations, as well as European and international current affairs, with special emphasis on regional developments in the eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.

Energy Minister to have talks with his counterpart in Egypt

Minister of Energy Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, departs Sunday for Cairo, where he will hold extended talks with Egypts Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla with the participation of delegations of the two countries. According to a PIO announcement, the agenda of the talks includes the intergovernmental agreement for a pipeline from Cyprus to Egypt, EU-Egypt relations in the field of energy, as well as regional energy partnerships.

President of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris, said on Sunday that the most important obstacle for the solution of the Cyprus problem is Turkey, which is causing constant disagreements, divergences and deadlocks. Speaking during a memorial service in Kakopetria village, Sylllouris pointed out that, Ankara with its stance regarding the Cyprus issue and Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone, as well as towards Syria, confirmed that it has long-standing imperialist attitudes and expansive aspirations.
