It is crucial to reach a solution of the Cyprus problem which will bring peace and security across the entire country and create conditions of cooperation and prosperity for all its citizens, President Nicos Anastasiades has said, addressing a memorial service at the naval base Evangelos Florakis, on the southern coast, to honour thirteen people killed in a huge blast on July 11, 2011.

OSCE’s Harlem Desir unveils glossary for journalists in Cyprus

A glossary for journalists in Cyprus, entitled Words That Matter was presented on Tuesday, in Nicosia, by Harlem Desir, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, in the framework of his Offices Cyprus Dialogue project. He said that the glossary, published in Greek, Turkish and English, aimed at helping journalists in their professional work.

Interactive kiosks installed at Cyprus’ airports to facilitate passport control

Seventy-four interactive kiosks have been installed at Cyprus’ two international airports to facilitate passport control. Hermes Airports, the Cyprus Police and the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, announced the introduction and operation of the BorderXpress interactive kiosks at Larnaka and Pafos international airports. Through this high-level technology, each departing or arriving passenger in Cyprus will be in position to independently scan his or her identity card or passport as an intermediate step of the passport control procedure the press release read.

Cyprus recorded the 2nd largest natural positive change of population in the EU

During 2017 Cyprus recorded 9.2 live births in every 1000 residents and 6.0 deaths, registering a net positive change of 3.2 for every 1000 residnets, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU. In “crude ratio” terms, which is calculated as the ratio of the number of events to the average population in a given year, Cyprus recorded 10.7 live birhts and 7.0 deaths, which constitue a 3.8 positive natural change of population, second in the EU, only to Ireland.

Deal with CCB set to change Hellenic Bank and its future potential, CEO tells AGM

The agreement for the acquisition of certain assets and liabilities of the Cyprus Cooperative Bank (CCB) would change completely the Hellenic Bank and its future potential, said CEO of the Bank Ioannis Matsis, in his speech at the 44th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on Wednesday. As he said, this transaction would turn the Hellenic Bank into a leading bank in retail and small and medium-sized businesses banking in Cyprus.

House prices in Cyprus increase by 3.7% in annual basis during Q1 2018

House prices in Cyprus decreased by -1.8% in Q1 2018 compared to the Q4 2017 but increased by 3.7% compared to Q1 2017, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. The quarterly decrease was the second largest in the EU, after Malta.

Construction prices and production up in Q1 2018

Construction prices and production were up in the first quarter of 2018, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service, on Tuesday, show. According to the data, the Output Prices Index in Construction for the first quarter of 2018 reached 99.3 units (base year 2010=100.0), recording an increase of 0.7% over the fourth quarter of 2017. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the index recorded an increase of 3.8%.

Fenced recycling enclosures in supermarkets

MUSKITA Aluminium has announced that it has constructed fenced enclosures using aluminium for the recycling of glass in a Limassol supermarket in cooperation with Green Dot Cyprus. The action was undertaken in the context of the companys corporate social responsibility, it says in a press release. “As the sponsor of this effort the company constructed new areas with aluminium fences which will be permanently located in supermarkets aiming to make recycling even more easy and accessible to everyone,” it notes.
