Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Christodoulides has outlined to MPs the pillars on which Cyprus’ foreign policy is based, that would ultimately serve the goal of reaching a solution to the Cyprus problem, during the presentation of the ministry’s budget for 2019 before the parliamentary committee on financial and budgetary affairs.

Ambassador of Iran expresses support to a Cyprus solution based on UN resolutions

Newly appointed Ambassador of Iran in Nicosia, Hossein Aminian Tousi, has expressed his countrys firm support to Cyprus efforts to reach a solution of the Cyprus problem on the basis of the relevant UN resolutions. Tousi was received on Wednesday by the President of the House of Representatives, Demetris Syllouris.

Cyprus to appoint military attache in Washington

The Cabinet decided on Wednesday to appoint a military attache in Washington. According to Deputy Government Spokeswoman Klelia Vasiliou, the decision is part of the effort to strengthen bilateral ties between the Republic of Cyprus and the United States of America and to engage in a balanced defence diplomacy.

Technical Committee restores two more monuments in Famagusta

Cyprus a good reference point in terms of cyber security says ITU official

Head of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Office for Europe, Jaroslaw Ponder, said that Cyprus was a good reference point both at the international and regional level, in terms of cyber security, congratulating the government on its long – standing commitment to cyber security. Ponder spoke on Wednesday at the ITU Cyberdrill – ALERT conference, organised by the Digital Security Authority and the Computer Security Incident Response Team in cooperation with the ITU and the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST).

Economic sentiment up in November

Economic sentiment improved in Cyprus in November due mainly to services and retail trade. In particular, the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) which is compiled by the University of Cyprus Economic Research Centre (ERC) was up by 2.6% in November compared to October reaching 115.2 units.

Statistics: Tax to GDP ratio in Cyprus 34% in 2017, population increases by 1.2%

Total revenue from taxes and social contributions as percentage of GDP in Cyprus increased from 28.0% in 2002, to 36.1% in 2007, to 31.6% in 2012 and finally to 33.3%, 32.9% and 34.0% for 2015, 2016 and 2017 respectively, according to Eurostat. Meanwhile, the Statistical Service of Cyprus announced an increase of 1.2% in the population of the Republic of Cyprus in 2017, compared to 2016, reaching 864.2 thousand.
