Cyprus to carry out eight drillings in its EEZ in the next 24 months, Energy Minister announces
Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis announced on Tuesday that Cyprus is planning to carry out eight drillings in its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), during the next 24 months. The Minister said that six of those will be exploratory, while two will be confirmatory.

US President Donald Trump has sent two identical letters to the Chairpersons of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the House of Representatives and the Senate, informing the Congress on progress towards a negotiated solution of the Cyprus question for the periods August-September and October-November in 2018. The US President is bound by law to submit reports on Cyprus every two months.

Cyprus Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides hosted on Tuesday an Iftar Dinner in honour of Ambassadors hailing from countries of the Muslim world, based in Nicosia, on the occasion of Ramadan. Conservation works begin at occupied church in Kythrea
Conservation works began on Tuesday at the Saints Andronikos and Athanasia church in the occupied village of Kythrea. Greek Cypriot co-chairman of the bicommunal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, Takis Hadjidemetriou, told CNA that the works will cost Euros 270,000 and that they will be concluded within 2019.
UK F-35 land in the British Bases in Cyprus
UK F-35 jets landed on Tuesday afternoon in the British Bases, in Akrotiri, in the southern coast of Cyprus. The British Bases posted on twitter that the F-35 are on their first overseas flight to conduct valuable development training and to exercise all aspects of moving to a forward deployed location, including logistics, maintenance and flying.
Cyprus’ probation population below the European average, study shows
Cyprus has a probation population rate of 106 probationers per 100,000 inhabitants, which is below the European median value of 169 probationers per 100,000 inhabitants. The number of persons in Europe who are subject to alternatives to imprisonment is increasing, whilst at the same time the prison population is falling.
Final results of the European elections at midnight on Sunday
The final results of the European elections will be given by the Chief Returning Officer at midnight on May 26th. According to the Head of the Election Service Dimitris Demetriou, the results will be given simultaneously with all the Member States of the European Union, midnight on May 26th. As he said, there will not be a continuous flow of results after the closure of the ballots. The declaration of the elected MEPs will be held at Filoxenia Conference Center.
Arrivals of travellers in Cyprus record drop in March
Arrivals of travellers in March this year fell by 2.3%, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service show with the drop mainly attributed to a drop in tourist arrivals by 11.5%. According the data the arrivals of travellers in March 2019 reached 297,614 compared to 304,694 in March 2018, recording a decrease of 2,3%.
Trade deficit down annually by 21.5% in first two months of 2019
Trade deficit recorded a significant annual drop of 21.5% in the first two months of this year compared with the first to months of 2018, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service show.
