Spehar says meeting with President Anastasiades was constructive

Elizabeth Spehar, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Cyprus met on Wednesday with the President of Cyrus Nicos Anastasiades, in Limassol, ahead of a report the UN Secretary-General is expected to submit regarding the peacekeeping mission in Cyprus (UNFICYP). Speaking after the meeting, which lasted for about an hour, Spehar said it was constructive.

FM Christodoulides sends message on Cyprus problem to Cavusoglu through the Swiss FM

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Christodoulides said on Tuesday that he asked his Swiss counterpart Ignazio Cassis to convey the message to Turkey that we are ready to engage in dialogue, provided that illegal activities within the EEZ of Cyprus will stop and that it is only through dialogue that a solution can be reached, on the basis of the relevant UN resolutions and the principles upon which the European Union is founded.

Greece denounces Turkeys attempted drilling in Cyprus’ EEZ, other reactions continue

The Greek Foreign Ministry has denounced the Turkish attempted drilling in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone as an illegal action, which violates the sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus and the International Law. The United States, the United Kingdom, France and Egypt have also expressed concern. Meanwhile, House President Demetris Syllouris has said Turkey’s actions render the resumption of talks for a just settlement of the Cyprus problem very difficult. Furthermore, the European External Action Service and the European Commission will table the option of suspending Euros 145.8 million on enlargement funds and “reassess” the European Investment Banks investing in Turkey, at an EU Member States permanent representatives meeting, as an answer to Turkeys illegal drilling activities in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Cyprus.
