A functional and viable solution cannot be one-sided, Cyprus President points out

A functional and viable solution of the Cyprus problem cannot be one-sided, President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades has said, noting that the solution cannot give such privileges or powers to one of the two communities in such a way that would violate the law and fundamental principles and values that are not in force or applied in any other country.

IAO underlines need for respect of the human rights of Cypriots

The Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy underlined the need for the human rights of all Cypriots to be respected and condemned the destruction of religious and cultural heritage in the occupied areas of Cyprus. Addressing the Assembly, President of the House of Representatives, Demetris Syllouris, thanked the IAO for its longstanding support and help in the struggle of Cyprus for justice.

President appoints interim Greek Cypriot member of the CMP

President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades appointed Nicos Theodosiou as the interim Greek Cypriot member of the Committee on Missing Persons In Cyprus (CMP), the Cyprus Presidency has announced. Theodosiou succeeds Nestoras Nestoros whose term as the Greek Cypriot member of the CMP has ended.

Defence Minister highlights Cyprus’s significance in Eastern Mediterranean in London speech

Cypriot Minister of Defence Savvas Angelides has said that the government’s strategic objective is to transform the Eastern Mediterranean from a region of conflict into one of stability, security, development and prosperity. He was addressing an audience of diplomats and defence and security experts at London’s RUSI on Wednesday afternoon, on the first of his two-day official visit to the UK capital.

House President to head delegation at Interparliamentary Union Assembly in Qatar

President of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris will be travelling to Doha, Qatar, heading a delegation to the 140th Assembly of the Interparliamentary Union, to be held from April 6 to 10. The Conference will discuss the role of parliaments as platforms in strengthening education for peace, security and the rule of law.

Cyprus to host CMMI, a centre of excellence in marine and maritime activities

Cyprus will host an independent, international, scientific and business centre of excellence in marine and maritime activities, the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI), driven by the needs of industry and society.
