President says government achieved much in protection of human rights

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades referred to the achievements of the government over the past five years in the issue of respect of human rights, noting that the struggle to put an end to Turkeys occupation and reunify the island is also based on the respect of human rights. The President, who was the keynote speaker at an event on Monday at the Presidential Palace, on the occasion of Human Rights Day, said that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the foundation on which the modern international community builds its respect towards people.

Cyprus and Egypt to sign Memorandum on search and rescue

Cyprus and Egypt will sign a Memorandum of Cooperation on Aeronautical Search and Rescue. According to a press release issued by the Public Information Office (PIO), the memorandum will be signed during the official visit of the Arab Republic of Egypt’s Minister of Defence, General Sedki Sobhy which begins tomorrow.

Eurobarometer: Businesses consider corruption to be widespread in Cyprus

All companies which participated in a survey consider corruption to be widespread in Cyprus, according to the Eurobarometer on corruption, which measures the perceptions of the business sector, while at the same time 68% of the businesses consider corruption to be a problem in carrying out business activities.

Trade deficit increases in January-September 2017

Trade deficit of Cyprus foreign trade increased to Euros 3.165,5 mn in January-September 2017 compared to Euros 3.003,4 mn in the corresponding period of 2016, according to data released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus. The increase is mainly due to the increase in imports, although exports also increased compared to the same period of 2016.
