Defence Minister to brief French counterpart over Turkish provocations in EEZ

Defence Minister Savvas Angelides is paying a visit to Paris, where he is expected to brief his French counterpart, Florence Parly, over Turkish provocations in Cyprus’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

International Rating Agency DBRS views positively efforts by the Cyprus government and the local banks to reduce NPLs and has noted that after the liquidation of the Cooperative sector has halved NPLs in stock and has helped consolidate the banking sector from 320% of GDP to 280% of GDP.

House President in UK on working visit

First four volumes of the “Cyprus File” will be handed over to Greek PM and President on Wednesday

The first four volumes of the “Cyprus File”, the result of lengthy discussions at the Hellenic Parliament in cooperation with the House of Representatives on the Cyprus problem, are set to be handed over to Greeces President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Wednesday. Reliable sources have told CNA that the Hellenic Parliaments Speaker Nikos Voutsis will be handing over the first two volumes first to Pavlopoulos and then to Tsipras.

Trade deficit drops to Euros 2.2 billion in first seven months of 2018

The trade deficit fell by 14.4% to Euros 2.2 billion in the first seven months of this year down from nearly Euros 2.6 billion at the same period last year, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service, on Monday, show. According to the data total imports in January – July 2018 amounted to Euros 5,230.6 mn as compared to Euros 4,402.9 mn in January – July 2017.

Eurostat confirms 2017 Cyprus 1.8% budget surplus with 2nd notification data release

Eurostat has confirmed Cyprus 2017 budget surplus of +1,8% with todays 2nd notification for government figures.More specifically according to Eurostat, the GDP of Cyprus stood at 19 571 billion euro, with a government surplus of +344 million euro, or 1.8% of GDP.

Industrial turnover in Cyprus up in first seven months of 2018

Industria turnover in Cyprus recorded an increase in July and during the first seven months of this year, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service show. In particular, according to the data the industrial turnover index for July 2018 reached 143.5 units (base 2015=100), recording an increase of 6.5% compared to July 2017.
