Barnier reiterates that the EU is ready to respond to Turkish provocations in Cypriot EEZ
Michel Barnier, the EU chief negotiator for Brexit, reiterated on Monday the European Union readiness to respond accordingly in case Turkey carries out illegal hydrocarbon drilling activities, noting that the EU stands clearly behind Cyprus. Barnier, who is currently visiting Cyprus in the context of a tour to European capitals to discuss the situation concerning Brexit, met with Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicos Christodoulides, who briefed him on the recent Turkish illegal operations within Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
Turkeys approach towards missing persons issue is inhumane, Commissioner Photiou says
Presidential Commissioner, Photis Photiou, has said that Turkey has been displaying an inhumane behaviour as regards the tragedy of missing persons in Cyprus, prolonging the agony and the pain of their relatives. In a message to the annual General Assembly of the Panhellenic Committee of Parents and Relatives of Missing Persons, held in Athens on Sunday, read out by the President of the Committee Maria Kalbourtzi, Commissioner Photiou underlined that Turkey is not responding to the humanity’s call to cooperate substantively, with a view to establish the fate of all missing persons.

Commission’s Director-General for Research and Innovation to visit Cyprus
The European Commission’s Director-General for Research and Innovation Jean-Eric Paquet will be in Cyprus on May 21 and 22 for a series of meetings and visits. Paquet will meet Minister of Finance Harris Georgiades, who is responsible for the Research and Innovation portfolio in the Government, and members of the academic, research and business communities.

In 2018, the euro was the most used currency for EU exports with a share of 48% of the total value of goods exported to non-EU countries and a share of 35% invoiced in US dollars, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
AEK Larnaca ranks second in 1st division
In its last match of the championship, AEK Larnaca won over Omonia by 2-1, and ranked second with 70 points, qualifying for the Europa Championship play offs. Apollon lost over Nea Salamina with 2-1 ranking third with 58 points while Ermis Aradipou and Alki Oroklini have moved to the second division with Ethnikos Ahnas and Olympiakos Nicosia returning to the 1st division. In the first division, the match APOEL-AEL ended with 4-0, Nea Salamina � Apollon 2-1 and AEK � Omonia 2-1. APOEL has qualified for the Champions League play offs as it tops the 1st division with 70 points and AEK and Apollon for the European League. The championship will wrap up on Wednesday with the final match between APOEL and AEL at the GSP Stadium at 1900 local time. The first division will resume on 24-25 August.
