Trilateral Cyprus-Greece-Israel Summit with US participation begins Wednesday in Jerusalem

The 6th Trilateral Cyprus-Greece-Israel Summit, with the participation of the United States, begins in Jerusalem Wednesday afternoon to advance energy and security in Eastern Mediterranean. Attending the summit are President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras and Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Greek FM will ask Cavusoglu about Turkeys views on how to replace the system of guarantees in Cyprus

Greek Foreign Minister George Katrougalos said on Tuesday that during his meeting with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu, on Thursday, in Turkey, he will seek to be informed about Ankara’s views on how the system of guarantees in Cyprus can be replaced with a mechanism which will not have any characteristics that are contrary to the international law. Katrougalos met on Tuesday with the President Nicos Anastasiades, House President Demetris Syllouris, and Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides.

President sends strong message of peace at bicommunal football match

A bicommunal football match was held on Tuesday at the mixed village of Pyla between Greek Cypriot Salamina FC and Turkish Cypriot Magusa FC, in the presence of President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, who sent a strong message of hope and peace to both communities.

President vows to maintain fiscal discipline and promote structural reforms

President Nicos Anastasiades vowed that the government will comply with EU fiscal rules and maintain a prudent public financial management and promote structural reforms that would put the Cypriot economy on a sustainable growth path. Anastasiades’ comments were made during the 10th Economic Ideas Forum organised by the Wilfried Martens Centre of European Studies and the Glafkos Clerides Institute. Addressing the Forum, Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis said the fact that discoveries in the Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus were piling up and further exploration was planned, was creating confidence that the interest would remain alive, despite the Turkish provocations.

Consumer credit in Cyprus kept contracting in January, the Canadian rating agency DBRS said on Tuesday, adding that mortgage lending was also negative in Cyprus in the same month.

Hourly labour cost grows in Cyprus by 2.6% during Q4 2018, by 2.3% in the euroarea

Hourly labour cost rose by 2.3% in the euro area (EA19), by 2.8% in the EU28, by 2.6% in Cyprus and by 2.5% in Greece, in the fourth quarter of 2018, compared with the same quarter of the previous year. In the third quarter of 2018, hourly labour cost increased by 2.5%, 2.6%, 3.3% and 1.9% respectively, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In Cyprus the wage component grew by 2.7% and the non-wage component by 2.2%. In Greece wages grew by 1.8% and the non-wage component by 4.6%.
