A solution that does not respect both communities will not last, President says

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades called the Turkish Cypriots and the international community to understand that a settlement to the Cyprus problem which does not respect both communities and creates the conditions for the imposition of one community on the other, instead of mutual respect in peaceful conditions, will not last in time and it is not what the Greek Cypriot community seeks.

Foreign Ministry makes official representation to UK over its position on Cyprus EEZ

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made on Wednesday an official representation to the UK High Commissioner to Cyprus, Stephen Lillie, over his country’s position with regard to Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone, while President Nicos Anastasiades will send a letter about this issue to the British Prime Minister Theresa May. Meanwhile, Cyprus’ High Commissioner in London Euripides Evriviades met the Minister for Europe Sir Alan Duncan at the Foreign Office to convey his government’s strong objection to the minister’s remarks. UK Cypriots also protested Sir Alan’s remarks. Furthermore, French Defence Minister Florence Parly condemned the recent Turkish provocations in Cyprus EEZ reaffirming Paris’ strong support to Cyprus.

Foreign Minister holds series of contacts during official visit to Kazakhstan

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Christodoulides has held a series of contacts in Kazakhstan in the framework of his official visit to the country. The Minister, who held a meeting on Wednesday with his counterpart Beibut Atamkulov, signed with him a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of political consultations, aiming at beginning a dialogue on political issues of mutual interest. Furthermore, Cyprus and Kazakhstan signed a Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and for the combating of Tax Evasion with respect to taxes on income.

Minister of Finance aims to reduce NPLs to a single digit rate during the next twelve months

The Finance Ministrys goal is to reduce non-performing loans (NPLs) of Cyprus’ banks to a single digit rate, Minister of Finance Harris Georgiades said on Wednesday, at a press conference on the Ministrys annual report for 2018 and the adoption of the Strategic Framework for Fiscal Policy 2020-2022 by the Cabinet.

The actuarial profession in a globalized and complex economy will be imperative, President of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris has said, adding that that actuarial science has been, and continues to be, a valuable tool for identifying, assessing and managing risks in the face of the acute problems that continue to persist.

GDP rises by 0.4% in the euro area, 0.5% in the EU28 and 0.9% in Cyprus during Q1 2019

Seasonally adjusted GDP rose by 0.4% in the euro area (EA19), by 0.5% in the EU28 and by 0.9% in Cyprus during the first quarter of 2019, compared with the previous quarter, according to a flash estimate published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

Cyprus’ economy grew by 3.4% in 1Q 2019, Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices up by 1.2% in April

The economy of Cyprus grew by 3.4% in the first quarter of 2019, according to a flash estimate of the Statistical Service. It also said the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices recorded an annual 1.2% increase in April.
