Israel’s President Reuven Rivlin said on Tuesday that the EastMed pipeline could be one of the greatest underwater projects in the world. Rivlin, who was speaking at the Presidential Palace after having held consultations with President Nicos Anastasiades in the context of an official visit to Cyprus, also spoke of the possibility of extending the trilateral cooperation mechanism Cyprus, Israel and Greece have formed. President Anastasiades said that energy constitutes a strategic pillar of cooperation and spoke of a vision of transforming our neighbourhood through cooperation and establishing synergies. Furthermore, Israel and Cyprus marked the 70th anniversary since the closure of Jewish detention camps in Cyprus.

Crans-Montana proposals no longer valid, Cyprus President says

Energy from renewable sources stands at 9.9% in Cyprus for 2017, far from 17.5% EU average and 13% 2020 target

The share of energy from renewable sources (expressed in % of gross final energy consumption) reached in Cyprus 9.9% in 2017, according to Eurostat, the statistical service of the European Union. The target set by the Council for the country is 13% for 2020 and Cyprus started from a low starting point of 3.3% in 2004, soon rising to 8.9% in 2014, 9.4% in 2015 and 9.3% in 2016. The 9.9% of 2017 is the 5th lowest rate in the EU.

NPEs increase by Euros 87 million in October

Non-performing exposures (NPEs) in Cyprus banks recorded an increase of Euros 87 million in October 2018 compared to September 2018, despite the fact that they remained unchanged as a ratio to total loans, according to figures released by the Central Bank of Cyprus.

Cyprus participates in EP-FIFPro Europe collaboration to mobilise voters ahead of European elections

Cyprus is among the ten main participating countries in a collaboration between the European Parliament and the footballers’ federation FIFPro Europe to mobilise voters ahead of the 2019 European elections, for which EP President Antonio Tajani and Secretary General of footballers’ federation FIFPro Europe Jonas Baer-Hoffmann have signed an agreement.

Dubai gearing up to host Expo 2020

Preparations to host Expo 2020 are well underway in Dubai, with organizers expecting to finish construction works a year ahead of the international event’s official launch, scheduled for October 2020. Cyprus is among the 190 countries to participate in the event.
