UNSGs envoy conveyed position that parties should determine terms of reference, Spokesman says

The UN Secretary General’s envoy for Cyprus, Jane Holl Lute, conveyed to Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades the position of the Secretary General that the parties should determine and agree, the soonest possible, the terms of reference for the resumption of substantive negotiations in the near future, Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou said after the two-hour meeting between President Anastasiades and Lute. Furthermore, a source told CNA that the Greek Cypriot side considers that this position offers the opportunity to consolidate the provisions of the Guterres framework. Meanwhile, Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties have welcomed Lute’s visit to Cyprus.

We are working towards a new model of growth and renewal, Commerce Minister says

Defence Minister: The aim is to continue the Republic’s energy programme

Mosaics at Agia Triada basilica restored

The bicommunal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage concluded recently the restoration of the mosaic floor in the 5th century Agia Triada basilica, located in Turkish-occupied Karpasia, in the north-eastern tip of Cyprus. Unemployment drops, industrial output prices index up

Cyprus recorded once more the largest annual decrease in unemployment rates in the EU, moving from 10.2% in September 2017 to 7.4% in September 2018. The same rate was 7.5% in August 2018 (7.1% in males and 7.8% in females) and corresponds roughly to 32 000 individuals, according to Eurostat. Meanwhile, industrial output prices index was up by 1.1% in the first eight months of this year, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service show.
