The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works has issued an announcement giving instructions to passengers affected by the cease of operations of Cobaltair Ltd. Cyprus Ministry issued statement following the suspension of Cobaltairs operations while the company expressed great regret for the suspension of its operations, saying this is a sad day for employees and passengers alike.

Cyprus National Guard chief attends conference on countering extremist organisations

National Guard Chief, Lieutenant General Elias Leontaris, at the invitation the US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Joseph F. Dunford, participated in the international Chief of Defence on countering violent extremist organisations held on October 15-17 at Ford Belvoir, Virginia. Minister of Agriculture pays official visit to Israel

Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment Costas Kadis paid on Wednesday an official visit to Israel. According to a press release by the Press and Information Office, the Minister addressed and attended a Cyprus – Israel seminar on water management, which is also attended by Ministry officials and officials from the Cyprus Electricity Authority, agriculture organisations and other associations and companies.

Cyprus and China legislative bodies sign Memorandum to promote cooperation

Tourist arrivals hit record high in September and first nine months of the year

Tourist arrivals in Cyprus recorded a historic high in September 2018 and in the first nine months of the year, figures released on Wednesday by the Statistical Service show. Cystat reported that arrivals of tourists reached 520.138 in September 2018 compared with 483.716 in September 2017, recording an increase of 7,5%. Meanwhile, the number of residents of Cyprus travelling abroad decreased by 0.4% in September 2018.

Increase in energy prices pushes harmonized inflation up in September

A significant rise in energy prices caused an increase in the harmonized inflation in the ninth month of the year, compared with September last year, while it was down by 0,8% compared with August. The Harmonized Price Index for September 2018 increased by 1,7% when compared to September 2017, while compared to August of 2018 decreased by 0,8%. For the period January-September 2018 the HICP increased by 0,5% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year the Statistical Service reported on Wednesday.

Inflation in Cyprus remains unchanged at 1.7% for September 2018

The Euro area annual inflation rate was 2.1% in September 2018, up from 2.0% in August. A year earlier, the rate was 1.5%. European Union annual inflation was 2.2% in September 2018, stable compared to August. A year earlier, the rate was 1.8%. In Cyprus the annual inflation remained unchanged from August, to 1.7% in September 2018 and a year earlier inflation stood at 0.1%.

Larnaca leading the way in adopting reusable straw

Students of the Agios Spyridonas special needs school presented Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras with the first reusable straw, aimed at putting an end to plastic waste in the city. In a statement, the Municipality said it supports the school’s Volunteer committee to put an end to the use of plastic straws in Larnaca and replace them with biodegradable.
