UN special envoy on Cyprus after some things happen politically, UNSC President says

There is a school of thought in the UN Secretariat about the next steps on Cyprus, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN and President of the UN Security Council Vassily Nebenzia has said. He noted that “we had a special envoy being proposed,” expressing the belief that this will not be done before some things happen politically.

Fifth Cyprus Pride takes place

Under the slogan #make the change, the week-long 5th Cyprus Pride Festival culminated on Sunday with the Pride Parade, which was followed by a party at the Nicosia municipal garden.

Transport Minister Vassiliki Anastasiadou addressed the event, on behalf of Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, and spoke of the steps the government has taken and is planning to take in order to cultivate respect for human rights and diversity.

Twelve architects compete over Zouhouri mosque reconstruction

Twelve architectural firms have expressed interest in the Zouhouri mosque reconstruction, Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras has told CNA. In total, 12 architectural firms have responded to a call for tenders announced by Larnaca Municipality. They have submitted architectural plans and completed studies for the reconstruction of the Zouhouri mosque and the entire building bloc, Vyras said.

Cyprus to host Balkan Water Polo Games and Mediterranean Open Sea Cup 2019

Cyprus will be hosting the Balkan Water Polo Games and the Mediterranean Open Sea Swimming Cup (COMEN) in 2019, decisions taken respectively by the Balkan Federation and the Committee of Mediterranean Countries. According to the Cyprus Swimming Federation (KOEK), the decisions were taken during the meetings of the Committees, which were held in Budapest, in the framework of the European Swimming Federation congress (LEN).
