Security Council convenes on January 30 for UNFICYP mandate renewal

The UN Security Council convenes on January 30 to adopt a resolution regarding the renewal of the mandate of the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) for another six months. According to the programme of the Presidency of the Security Council, currently chaired by the Dominican Republic, a meeting has been set for January 17 with the participation of troop contributing countries. UNSGs Special Representative and chief of mission Elizabeth Spehar will brief the Security Council on January 22. Spehar will hold contacts in New York and Washington ahead of consultations on UNFICYP mandate.

The status quo is not a solution to the Cyprus problem, Greek Alternate FM says

Greek Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs George Katrougalos reiterated Greece’s strong commitment to the solution of the Cyprus issue pointing out that the status quo does not constitue an acceptable solution.

High Commission in constant contact with Foreign Office on Cyprus issue, says Evriviades

The High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus in the UK is in constant contact with the Foreign Office regarding the Cyprus issue, the High Commissioner Euripides Evriviades has said in a message to the UK Cypriot community for the New Year.(We are) promoting our positions with the aim of seeking and securing support, but mainly impressing the importance that achieving a deal, which will be in the benefit of all citizens of Cyprus and not of third parties, has both for Cypriots and the UK, the High Commissioner noted.

Public urged to register in the electoral roll for European elections by April 2

With the European Parliament elections taking place on May 26, 2019, the Central Electoral Service urged the public on Thursday to submit their applications to register in the electoral roll on time. The registration deadline is April 2.

Finance Ministry issues six-year bonds for natural persons worth of Euros 5.6 million

The Finance Ministry has issued domestic bonds for natural persons amounting to Euros 5.6 million, the Public Debt Management Office (PDMO) announced on Thursday. It said that it received 91 offers, all from Cypriot investors, totalling Euros 5.600.400. All bids were accepted.

Submerged bins to be installed in Larnaca’s beachfront in first quarter of 2019

The installation of 64 submerged bins in Larnaca’s beachfront will start during the first quarter of 2019, in a bid to reduce solid waste. Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras told CNA that the contracts were signed in early December 2018 between the Department of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, the Panaos Truck Bodies Industry Ltd and the Municipality.
