Cyprus President has telephone conversation with Greek Premier about Turkish NAVTEX

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades has had a telephone conversation with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras regarding the renewal of the Turkish NAVTEX in Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone. Reliable sources have told CNA that the President convened a meeting at the Presidential Palace at 19.15 local time (17.15 GMT) to discuss the next moves in addressing the situation caused by Turkeys decision to renew a NAVTEX it had issued, which is set to expire on Thursday.

Threats and actions are not suited to bring a solution, Austrian Ambassador tells CNA

Threats and actions which stand in contradiction to international law and the spirit of good-neighbourly relations are not suited to bringing about a solution, Austrian Ambassador to Nicosia, Dr. Eva Maria Ziegler, has told CNA. The Ambassador was invited by CNA to express the Austrian position as regards the Turkish actions in Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone.

The EU – Turkey Varna Summit is “still relevant”, says EU Commission Spokesman

The EU – Turkey Summit in Varna, “is still relevant”, says European Commission Chief Spokesman Margaritis Schinas, who was invited to comment on the future of this Summit, especially in the light of recent Turkeys actions in Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone. Asked by CNA, whether the Varna Summit is still relevant, as Turkey has been ignoring every call by the EU to respect Cyprus EEZ, Schinas said: “The answer is yes, it is relevant and the President had the chance to discuss this with Prime Minister Yildirim in Munich, precisely to prepare the road to Varna.”

Cyprus records deflation of 1.5% in January

Cyprus recorded deflation of 1.5% on an annual basis in January, official data released on Monday show. The Harmonized Price Index for January 2018 fell by 1.5% when compared to January 2017, a Cyprus Statistical Service press release issued here today says. Compared to December of 2017 the Index dropped by 1.9%, it adds.

RICS: Property prices increase significantly in Q3 2017

An increase of 7.4% in apartment prices and 4.2% in house prices on an annual basis was recorded by RICS’ Cyprus Property Price Index. Across Cyprus, on an annual basis (compared to Q3 2016), the price of flats increased by 7.4%, houses by 4.2%, offices by 8.8%, warehouses by 4.4% and retail by 4.5%.

Turnover value index of transport and storage shows increase

The Turnover Value Index of Transport and Storage for the fourth quarter of 2017 recorded an increase of 2,6% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2016. According to figures by the Statistical Service of Cyprus, by economic activity, an increase of 24,2% was recorded in water transport, 12,4% in postal and courier activities and 9,0% in land transport, whereas a decrease of 1,6% was observed in warehousing and support activities for transportation over the corresponding quarter of 2016.

Industrial Turnover Index up by 12% in first 11 months of 2017

Industrial Turnover Index was up by 12% in the first 11 months of 2017 and 12.3% in November data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service, on Tuesday, show. According to the data the Industrial Turnover Index for November 2017 reached 86.9 units (base 2010=100), recording an increase of 12.3% compared to November 2016.

Tourist arrivals increases in January by 21.2%

Arrivals of tourists increased in January 2018 by over 21% compared to last year. According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus, on the basis of the results of the Passengers Survey, arrivals of tourists reached 75.867 in January 2018 compared to 62.611 in January 2017, recording an increase of 21.2%.
