Spokesman: Resumption of talks with what was granted on guarantees-occupying army in Crans Montana

Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou has said that President is striving for the resumption of the Cyprus talks with was granted on guarantees and Turkish occupying army during the last phase of the dialogue in Crans Montana in the summer of 2017 to be on the table. Speaking during a memorial service on Sunday the Spokesman said that we want peace, stability and security for our children and the future of our country, adding that the solution will be based on a compromise, however this honest compromise will lead to a viable and functional state.

UNFICYPs presence on the island and resumption of Cyprus talks two different things, says Defence Minister

Cyprus message to all contacts held at the UN Headquarters in New York is that UNFICYPs presence on the island and the resumption of the UN-backed talks are two separate things and must not be confused, Defence Minister Savvas Angelides has told the Cyprus News Agency. Angelides is in NYC where he addressed on Friday the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Conference on Uniformed Capabilities, Performance and Protection. On the sidelines of the Conference he met with officials from countries with contributing forces to UNFICYP. Namely he met with Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan and the permanent representatives of China, Russia, Argentina, Peru and Serbia.

Parliament hosts meetings of Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy

The House of Representatives will be hosting a meeting of the International Secretariat, Chairpersons and Committee Rapporteurs of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO), with the participation of delegations from 13 IAO member states, namely Egypt, Albania, Armenia, Georgia, Greece, Jordan, Lithuania, Montenegro, Palestine, Romania, Russia, Serbia and Sudan.

Cyprus celebrates Earth Hour, central event takes place at Presidential Palace

The central celebration to mark this year’s Earth Hour took place Saturday evening at the Presidential Palace where President Nicos Anastasiades announced the appointment of Professor Costas Papanikolas, President of the Cyprus Institute (CyI), as his special adviser for Climate Change. Celebrations took place in other cities as well.
