President hopes UN Envoy Lute’s contacts on the island to lead to resumption of peace talks

President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiades reiterated his determination to engage in a dialogue on a Cyprus settlement on the basis of the parameters as determined by the UN Secretary General on 30 June 2017 and clarified on 4 July. At the same time he expressed the hope that the meetings UN Envoy Jane Hall Lute will hold on the island on Monday, will allow UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to start a new round of peace talks.

President of the Hellenic Parliament warns Turkey’s stance leads to the continuation of the stalemate

Cyprus becoming a normal state is the key to a solution, Greek FM says

The key to a functional and viable solution of the Cyprus problem is the reunification of the island as a normal modern state, which will ensure prosperity for the people of Cyprus, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias said in his official statement on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus. Cyprus must become a state with full sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, free from foreign occupation troops, foreign dependence and from unilateral rights of third countries to interfere in its internal affairs, Kotzias stressed.

Overseas Cypriots conference to be upgraded, says Presidential Commissioner

The annual overseas Cypriots’ conferences in Nicosia will be upgraded this year, with special attention to be given to the 9th World Conference of Young Overseas Cypriots (NEPOMAK). Speaking to CNA, Presidential Commissioner Photis Photiou said that the official opening of the central councils of the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots � International Coordinating Committee Justice for Cyprus (POMAK-PSEKA) as well as NEPOMAK will take place on 25th July in the afternoon in the presence of President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades and the island’s political leadership.

FinMin assures Fiscal Council of governments commitment to balanced budget

Minister of Finance Harris Georgiades has assured the leadership of the Fiscal Council of the governments firm commitment to balanced budgets and the avoidance of any fiscal deficits. Cypriot banking system penultimate in capital ratio in the EU

Cyprus is in the penultimate place in the European Union, at the same place with Italy and ahead of Portugal on its banking system’s Common Equity Tier 1 capital (CET1) according to the risk dashboard that the European Banking Authority has published for March 2018. In particular, the Cypriot banking system’s CET1 dropped at the end of March to 13.2%, down from 13.9% at the end of 2017, 15.1% at the end of 2016 and 14.9% at the end of 2015.

Agreement for operation of “satellite casino” at Larnaka Airport

Hermes Airports Ltd and Integrated Casino Resorts Cyprus Ltd (ICR Cyprus) announce the signing of a commercial agreement with which the airport operating company provides ICR Cyprus with two specific locations in the terminal building of Larnaka Airport in order to create a satellite casino in the city of Larnaka. According to a joint press release, the first location to be allocated is situated in the departures area, accessible only to departing passengers, whilst the second one is situated in the arrivals area, accessible to the general public.

Geroskipou Municipality and AKTI Center team up to clean coast

The Municipality of Geroskipou, the Geroskipou Community Welfare Council, and the AKTI Project and Research Center with the participation of many children cleaned on Friday the coast of Geroskipou from sea litter, covering a distance of 300 meters. The aim of their effort was the cultivation of environmental consciousness but also scientific, as the garbage collected will be recorded to serve later as a scientific tool.
