President says decisions with regard to the maritime areas will constitute a federal competence in reunited Cyprus

Decisions with regard to the maritime areas (territorial sea, contiguous zone, continental shelf, and exclusive economic zone) as defined by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982, will constitute a federal competence in reunited Cyprus, President Nicos Anastasiades has said. The President issued a written statement issued on Wednesday, in light of recent statements and rhetoric by Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots.

President to raise the issue of illegal Turkish navtex at informal meeting of EU leaders on Friday

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades will raise the issue of the Turkish actions in Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone during the informal European Council to be held in Brussels on the 23rd of February, sources have told CNA. On Tuesday Anastasiades called a meeting at the Presidential Palace following the renewal, until March 10, of an illegal Turkish navtex, set to expire on Thursday.

Investment funds assets rise to record high level in December 2017

The total assets of investment funds increased by approximately Euros 700 mn on a quarterly basis, reaching a historically high level, according to data released on Tuesday by the Central Bank of Cyprus. The total assets of investment funds increased at the end of December 2017 to Euros 3.45 bn, compared to Euros 2.74 bn in September 2017, showing an increase of approximately 26%, which is highest level ever recorded.
