Cyprus solution exclusively depends on Turkeys stance, says House President

It is obvious that the Cyprus solution does not depend on us but on Turkeys stance, who is deploying an aggressive behaviour, House President Demetris Syllouris said and pointed out that we need to have consensus and be united to tackle the challenges. Speaking on Sunday at the memorial service for EOKAs hero Yiorgos Papaverkiou, Syllouris said that we have a moral responsibility and obligation to carry on fighting to safeguard the interests of our country and draw lessons from the heroes of the EOKA struggle against British rule of Cyprus in the second half of 1950s.

European institutions can exert pressure on Turkey about the situation in Cyprus EEZ, MEP tells CNA

European institutions have tools at their disposal to exert pressure on Turkey so that it puts an end to its illegal actions within Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone, Cypriot MEP Neoklis Sylikiotis has told CNA. In an interview with Cyprus News Agency Sylikiotis expressed the view that the European Commission and the Council have the tools to exert pressure on Turkey so that it stops all these illegal actions.

Authorities to assess damage from heavy rainfall that hit Cyprus’ south and southwest coast

Authorities started assessing the damage from the heavy rainfall that hit the islands south and southwest coast on Friday. The Mayor of Limassol said that the situation is manageable.

Thousands flock to Limassol for the Carnival

Thousands have flocked to the coastal city of Limassol on Sunday for the the most famous Carnival parade of the island. It is estimated that around 35,000 people paraded along Makarios Avenue and as Mayor Nicos Nicolaides had said, this year the Carnival has drawn the most participations. A total of 110 groups and floats took part at the Carnival.
