Security and guarantees constitute the core issues of the Cyprus problem, Defence Minister says

Defence Minister Savvas Angelides, said on Sunday that it is evident that there is an effort by the Turkish side to overlook the issues of security, guarantees, intervention rights and the withdrawal of the occupation troops from Cyprus, and stressed that for the Greek Cypriot side security and guarantees constitute the core issues of the Cyprus issue and this reality should not be ignored, so that it will be possible for the negotiations on the Cyprus problem to be successful.

President Anastasiades travels to London to attend “Celebration for Cyprus” at Buckingham Palace

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, travels on Sunday to London where, on Monday evening, he will attend “Celebration for Cyprus,” a special event in honour of Cyprus organized by Buckingham Palace, in the framework of the Commonwealth. On Tuesday afternoon President Anastasiades will hold a meeting with the British Prime Minister Theresa May, while on Sunday evening he will be meeting with members of the Cypriot community in the UK.

Government Spokesman, Prodromos Prodromou, has told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that Brexit will be the focus of a meeting which Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades will have with the UK Prime Minister Theresa May, on Tuesday, in London, with special reference to the issues regarding relations between Cyprus and the UK.

It is self-evident that while speaking about the traditionally close relations between the two countries and their peoples, they must hold consultations on this issue, Prodromou said.

Consultations for a meeting between FMs of Cyprus, Greece, Egypt and France at an advanced level

Cyprus Foreign Minister, Nikos Christodoulides, has told the Cyprus Agency (CNA) that consultations to prepare a meeting at foreign ministers level between Cyprus, Greece, Egypt and France are at an advanced stage.Replying to CNA questions Christodoulides also said that trilateral meetings between Cyprus, Greece and Lebanon and Cyprus, Greece and Armenia are also set to take place soon at FM level, as well as a trilateral summit between Cyprus, Greece and Jordan.

Department of Meteorology issues yellow warning over possible thunderstorm

The Department of Meteorology issued a yellow warning over possible thunderstorm which could hit Cyprus. The warning entered into effect from 06:00 local time today and expires on 18:00. Local heavy thunderstorms are likely to affect the area, the warning said, adding that precipitation rate may exceed 34 millimeters per hour.
