President convenes meeting with political party leaders on August 5

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades will convene a political party leaders council on Monday August 5 ahead of an informal meeting he is set to have with Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci on August 9, Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou said yesterday in Limassol after a meeting President Anastasiades had with UN Secretary Generals Special Representative in Cyprus Elizabeth Spehar. The Presidency announced today that the meeting will take place at 10.30 am local time (7.30 GMT) at the presidential residence, in the Troodos mountains.

Non-performing loans decline to Euros 10.14 billion in March 2019

Non-performing loans as defined by the European Banking Authority declined to Euros 10.14 billion in March 2019, marking a reduction of Euros 151 million compared to previous month. According to data released on Thursday by the Central Bank of Cyprus, NPLs accounted to 30.6% of total loans which in March amounted to Euros 33.11 billion. At the same time, new loans granted in Cyprus in the first half of 2019 amounted to Euros 1.76 billion, marking in increased of 11.5% compared with the respective period of 2018.

Revenue from tourist drop by an annual 5.8% in May

Revenue from tourism in May declined by 5.8% or Euros 17.1 million (mn) exceeding the percentage drop of 3.5% in tourist arrivals. According to data released on Friday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus revenue from tourism reached Euros 277.6 mn in May 2019 compared to Euros 294.7 mn in May last year.

Cyprus agrees joint tourist packages with neighbouring countries

Cyprus’ Tourism Deputy Ministry has agreed with Israel, Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon and is expected to soon conclude consultations with Greece on the promotion of joint tourist packages aiming to attract visitors from the United States, Canada, China, Japan and France.

Joint packages include the following thematic tours: Dive into the Aphrodite’s sea, A contemporary take on arts, traditions and handicrafts, Following the footsteps of St Paul, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Gastronomy, Thrills on wheels, The hidden treasures of the Phoenicians’ route, Following the footsteps of Goddess Aphrodite and A photographic journey through the natural beauty of the East Med.

Two Cypriot teams advance to 3rd Europa League qualifying round

Two Cypriot teams, AEK and Apollon, were victorious on Thursday evening and are advancing to the third qualifying round of UEFA’s Europa League. A third Cypriot team, AEL Limassol, lost to Aris Thessalonikis by 1-0 and was eliminated. AEK Larnaca qualified triumphantly to the next round breezing past Levski Sofia with an impressive score of 0 � 4. Apollon, a Limassol team, also managed to advance to the next qualifying round of the Europa League competition, eliminating the Shamrock Rovers with a score of 3-1 at the GSP stadium in Nicosia.
