Energy Minister meets with ENI representatives to assess EEZ developments

Energy Minister Georgios Lakkotrypis said he is meeting on Tuesday with representatives of the Italian energy giant ENI, in order to assess on the highest level the available options concerning developments in block 3 of Cyprus’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the UN makes representations to UN over Turkish provocations

The Republic of Cyprus has made representations to the UN over the Turkish provocations at Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone. Permanent Ambassador to the UN, Kornelios S. Korneliou during a meeting with UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feldman, outlined the Turkish provocations where the Italian energy giant ENIs drillship in the eastern Mediterranean, was halted Saturday by a Turkish Navy ship. Earlier Monday, Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides has said that the Government’s primary goal is for ENI’s rig SAIPEM 12000 to arrive in block 3 of Cyprus’ E?? and start an exploratory drilling in the target called Cuttlefish. At the same time, the UK government has reiterated that it recognizes the Republic of Cyprus’ sovereignty over its EEZ and urged all parties to avoid actions that risk escalating tensions in the region. European Council President Donald Tusk in a telephone conversation with President Nicos Anastasiades, called on Turkey to avoid threats or actions against any EU member.

Total loans pending to the public loan fund amount to Euros 77.3 million by the end of 2017

Total loans pending to the public loan fund, administered by the Treasury of the Republic, amounted to Euros 77.3 million by the end of 2017, a Treasury spokesperson told the Parliamentary Finance Committee.

The spokesperson also said provisions for bad loans amounted to approximately Euros 42 million by the end of last year, while accumulated reserves totalled Euros 142 million.

Government casual staff increases in January, permanent staff declines

The government labour force increased by 555 persons or 1.1% in January 2018 compared to January 2017 and reached 50.621 persons, the Statistical Service of Cyprus reported on Monday.

National and international road transport record big increase in Q2 2017

National and international road transport recorded a big annual increase between July – September 2017, according to figures released Monday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.

National road transport increased by 32.4% in second half of the previous year, compared to the corresponding period of 2016, Cystat said.
