President Anastasiades’ meeting with Akinci set for October 26

A meeting between the President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci will take place on October 26. According to UNFICYP Spokesperson Aleem Siddique Deputy Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Cyprus, Ms. Elizabeth Spehar, will host a meeting of the Greek Cypriot leader, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr. Mustafa Akinci, at the Chief of Mission Residence in the United Nations Protected Area on 26 October at 10:00.

Cobalt Air license revoked, company recorded annually Euros 30 mln losses in the past three years

Cyprus’ Air Transport Licensing Authority (ATLA) decided to revoke Cobalt Air’s operating license, Alecos Michaelides, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works told CNA.

A letter from ATLA informing the company about its decision will be sent Friday, Michaelides added.

Committee on Missing Persons locates human remains in occupied areas

The remains of one missing person were located on Thursday during excavations in the occupied village of Ayios Ermolaos.

A press release issued by the Office of the Greek Cypriot Member to the Committee of Missing Persons (CMP) says that excavations are currently underway in Arsos, Dikomo, Morphou and Nicosia.

European Commission experts to visit Cyprus on migration and refugee crisis

Experts from the European Commission are expected to visit Cyprus next week to hold contacts with the Cypriot authorities on the rising refugee and migrant flows towards the island.

A ministerial committee on crisis management that convened on Thursday, discussed the possibility of a new massive migration flow that could be caused by a new crisis in the region and whether the relevant plan implemented by the Cypriot authorities, called Nafkratis, would be adequate to handle it.

Residential prices index rises for eight quarters but prices remain moderate, CBC says

The increase of residential property prices remains moderate the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) has said as the residential property price index in the second quarter of 2018 marked eight consecutive quarters of growth. In another development, output in constructions has registered significant annual growth in the second quarter of 2018 rising 13.1% year on year, whereas prices rose by a moderate 3.9%, according to data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat).
