Slovak FM conveys his country’s support to bicommunal dialogue, as long as Cypriots find it useful

Slovakia will continue to support the bicommunal meetings between political parties on the island, as long as Cypriots find them useful, the Slovak FM Miroslav Lajcak has said.

The Minister who pays Cyprus a visit, attended on Monday afternoon a meeting of the leaders and representatives of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties, under the auspices of the Slovak Embassy at Ledra Palace hotel in Nicosia. This year marks the 30th anniversary of bicommunal dialogue initiated by former Ambassador of Czechoslovakia, Slovak diplomat Emil Keblusek. Meanwhile, the impasse of efforts for the solution to the Cyprus problem is the outcome of Turkey’s intransigence and non-constructive attitude President of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris has said to the Slovakian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs.

Turkey aims to create “fait accompli” in the Aegean and the E. Mediterranean, Greek FM says

Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Katrougalos said that Turkey’s provocative actions in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Aegean are creating tension in the region. However, he estimated that Turkey is not aiming to provoke a hot” incident in the Aegean.

In an interview on the Greek radio station Real FM, Minister Katrougalos said that the accumulation of tension, produced by Turkey’s provocative actions, raises the possibility for an accident in the Aegean.

Cyprus economy and competitiveness council prepares proposal for SME funding

The Cyprus economy and competitiveness council said it is preparing a proposal aiming to create an equity fund to support Cypriot small and medium enterprises (SMEs) which face difficulties in obtaining funding.

Takis Klerides Chairman of the Council told the Parliamentary Committee of Finance that the proposal will be submitted to the government in the second half of this month.

Car sales drop by 8.6% in January – May 2019

Total car sales observed a drop of 8.6% year on year in the period of January � May 2019 declining to 19,682 from 21,526 in the respective period of 2018, the Cyprus Statistical Service said on Monday.

According to the data, saloon car sales marked a reduction of 10.4% declining to 16,078 from 17,947 in January � May last year.

Five productions as part of the 2019 International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama

With five productions and eleven performances, the International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama takes place on June 28 to July 27 in three venues namely Paphos Ancient Odeon, Curium Ancient Theatre and Skali Amphitheatre in Aglantzia.

This years programme is composed of international and national theatre productions with the festival co-organised by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Cyprus Centre of the International Theatre Institute and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.
