House Co-op decision will lead to a sound banking system, FinMin says

Finance Minister Harris Georgiades on Monday said that the decision taken by the Cyprus Parliament as regards the Co-op will lead to a sound banking system that will encourage confidence and will function effectively in the demanding European environment.

Commission of inquiry on Cooperative sector sworn in

A commission of inquiry which will look into all the facts which have led to the predicament Cyprus’ cooperative credit system has found itself in, was sworn in, on Monday, at the Law Office of the Republic, in Nicosia.

After it was sworn in the commission had its first official meeting and decided to start gathering documents, evidence and other written statements deemed necessary so that it can complete the work it has undertaken in line with its mandate. For this purpose, letters will be sent out to state officials, management in the Cooperative sector and others asking them to supply the commission with such documents.

Bank of Cyprus sells its subsidiary in the UK

Bank of Cyprus Holdings Public Limited Company announces that it has signed a binding agreement to sell its wholly owned subsidiary bank in the UK, Bank of Cyprus UK Limited (BOC UK) and its subsidiary Bank of Cyprus Financial Services Ltd (BOC FS, and together the UK Group) to Cynergy Capital Limited (Cynergy). The sale is expected to be completed by the end of 2018 and is subject to approval by the regulators of both the Group and BOC UK.

Trade deficit decreases Euros 323.3 million in January-April 2018

?rade deficit in the period January-April 2018 recorded a decrease of Euros 323.3 million, compared to the corresponding period last year, according to the data released Monday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.

Registration of motor vehicles increases 17.6% in January-June 2018

The total registrations of motor vehicles increased by 17.6% to 26.059 in January-June 2018, from 22.157 vehicles in the same period of 2017, according to data released Monday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.

Passenger saloon cars increased to 21,642, from 18,290 in January-June 2017 recording an increase of 18.3%. Of the total passenger saloon cars, 7,726 or 35.7% were new and 13,916 or 64.3% were used cars.

House President pays tribute to Mari disaster victims, saying they acted “beyond the call of duty”

The state has a duty to apply a comprehensive system to coordinate all the necessary services and introduce high-level training for all those involved in safety matters, as a form of atonement for what went wrong and led to a deadly explosion at the naval base in Mari which killed 13 persons, House President Demetris Syllouris said here today.
