We cannot have a good preparation for resumption of Cyprus talks, if Turkey is absent , President says

There cannot be a good preparation for the resumption of UN talks for the solution of Cyprus, if Turkey is not present in this preparation process, the President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades has said.

Speaking on Sunday, during the memorial service for the late President of the Republic Tassos Papadopoulos, the President pointed out that one of the questions that we should ask ourselves, is how it is possible to have a good preparation for the negotiations, without the participation of that one country, Turkey, whose political will, if any, will lead to the solution of the Cyprus problem.

Cyprus cannot have any other solution but a federation, Greek President says

There is a common national position that Cyprus cannot have any other solution but a federation, President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos has said.

Pavlopoulos who delivered the eulogy at the tenth memorial service of the late President of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos on Sunday, pointed out that a confederation cannot be the solution, because a confederated state cannot fulfil its obligations towards the EU for the implementation of the acquis communautaire. He also said that a main prerequisite is to have a solution that will provide for one international, legal personality and one citizenship.

Archbishop Chrysostomos urges all to contribute towards the unity of the nation

The nation is strong and we all need to contribute to maintaining the unity of the nation, pledged Archbishop Chrysostomos II, speaking during a meeting with visiting Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos.

The Greek President is in Cyprus where he attended the memorial service of the late President of the Republic, Tassos Papadopoulos.

Katrougalos: Negotiations on Cyprus should be well prepared, not enough time for laying out the terms of reference

Greece’s Alternate Foreign Minister Giorgos Katrougalos has expressed the view that the negotiations for Cyprus should be well prepared to stand good chances of success. However, he said he did not believe there was enough time for laying down the terms of reference by the end of December.

In an interview with Greek News ahead of his visit to the United States, Katrougalos said it would be beneficial if the parties engaged in informal contacts to better prepare the whole effort.

FM travels to Brussels for EU Councils

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Christodoulides is travelling to Brussels on Sunday, to attend the Foreign Affairs and General Affairs Councils of the European Union to be held 10-11 December.

According to a press release issued by the Foreign Ministry, FAC is expected to focus, inter alia, on the situations in the Western Balkans, Venezuela and Iran. Furthermore, the Foreign Ministers will exchange views on EU cooperation with the African Union and will also discuss the latest developments in Ukraine, in view of the informal working lunch they will be having later on Monday with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister.
