President Anastasiades: There can be no solution in Cyprus if the treaty of guarantee is still in place

There can be no solution to the Cyprus problem if the anachronistic treaty of guarantee continues to be in place, President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades has stressed, adding that this is the message he has asked the Greek Premier to communicate to the Turkish President. Speaking on the sidelines of a reception at the French Embassy in Nicosia, the President also said that Cyprus and France enjoy excellent long standing relations, which are reflected in bilateral cooperation on various fronts, including defence and security matters, in addition to cooperation at the UN and within the EU.

Tsipras conveys to Erdogan need for Cyprus talks to continue

The importance to continue the talks for a solution to the Cyprus problem in the context of the UNSG Antonio Guterres framework was raised by Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsirpas to Turkey’s President Recep Tayip Erdogan on Thursday. The two men had a two-hour meeting on the sidelines of the summit NATO Summit in Brussels. Tsipras described the meeting as difficult. Ahead of the meeting, the President of Cyprus held a long telephone conversation with the Greek PM.

House President sends congratulatory message to Thai counterpart for rescue operation

President of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris has sent a message to his counterpart of Thailand, Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, expressing his congratulations on the successful rescue operation of the 12 boys and their coach, who were trapped in a cave due to the floods.

A press release by the Parliament of Cyprus says that Syllouris congratulated the special forces of Thailand on the courage and determination they have shown throughout the rescue mission.

New Ambassador to Vienna thanks Austria for longstanding stance of principles on Cyprus issue

New Ambassador of Cyprus to Vienna Elena Rafti, has expressed Cyprus’ gratitude towards Austria for Vienna’s longstanding stance of principles on the Cyprus issue.The new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Austria presented recently her credentials to the Federal President of the Republic of Austria Alexander van der Bellen.She conveyed the warm greetings of the President of the Republic of Cyprus and assured the Austrian President that she would work with the aim to further strengthen the already excellent relations between Cyprus and Austria.

Cyprus trade deficit was recorded at Euros 1.72 billion in the first five months of 2018 compared to Euros 2.16 billion in the same period of 2017, according to provisional data published on Thursday by the Cyprus Statistical Service.
