Cypriot and French Foreign Ministers hold meeting in Brussels

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, held a meeting on Monday with his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian on the sidelines of the EU28 Council of Foreign Ministers in Brussels. The two Ministers discussed about the Cyprus problem, regional cooperation and the upcoming visit of the French Minister to Cyprus. Christodoulides also congratulated him on Frances victory on the World Football Championship.

CCB acquisition by Hellenic to be completed by September

Officials from Hellenic Bank and the Cyprus Cooperative Bank (CCB) have kickstarted the process for the transfer of business of the CCB to Hellenic, following the agreement between the state-owned CCB and Hellenic announced last month. Officials from both banks told CNA that division directors began meetings to prepare the transfer which is expected to be completed by the coming September.

Sale of Bank of Cyprus UK is credit positive, Moodys says

Rating Agency, Moody’s, has described the sale of Bank of Cyprus subsidiary, Bank of Cyprus UK, as credit positive, noting that the sale would place Bank of Cyprus in better position to focus on reducing its domestic high stock of problems loans. Bank of Cyprus announced last Tuesday it signed a binding agreement to sell Bank of Cyprus UK to Cyenergy Capital Limited, owned by a consortium of UK-based investors, a sale for a consideration of Euros 117 million and a profit of Euros 3 million.

Justice Ministry and association against domestic violence sign cooperation protocol

Justice and Public Order Ministry and the Association for the prevention and combating of domestic violence in Cyprus signed on Monday a cooperation protocol, aiming to better coordinate efforts and be more effective in the prevention and combating of such negative social phenomena. In statements after the protocol was signed, Justice and Public Order Minister Ionas Nicolaou also referred to the recent upgrade of Cyprus in the US State Department’s 2018 Trafficking in Persons to Tier 1.

Agriculture Minister to participate in EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council

Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Costas Kadis will participate in the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council, that takes place today in Brussels. During the Council, the Austrian EU Presidency will present its priorities and work programme for the second half of 2018 in the field of agriculture and fisheries.

Cyprus registers Euros 1.7 billion trade deficit between January and May 2018, according to Eurostat

Cyprus exports of goods reached Euros 2.0 billion in the period from January till May 2018, a 92% increase compared to the same period of 2017 (Euros 0.5 billion to the EU or 4% increase and Euros 1.6 billion to the rest of the world or 154% increase). Meanwhile imports reached Euros 3.7 billion, a 18% increase compared to the same period of 2017 (Euros 2.2 billion from the EU or 8% increase and Euros 1.6 billion or 35% increase).

APOEL, Apollon and Anorthosis play to the second leg of 1st qualifying round of UEFA’s leagues

APOEL of Nicosia, Apollon of Limassol and Anorthosis of Famagusta are facing this week their European opponents at the first qualifying phase of UEFA Leagues.
