Cyprus and Serbia sign 5 MoUs, announce intention to have trilateral cooperation with Greece

Cyprus and Serbia signed on Friday five Memoranda of Understanding for cooperation in the fields of political consultations, European integration, education, sports and the Diaspora, in the context of the 2nd Intergovernmental Conference, hosted in Nicosia. President Nicos Anastasiades also announced the intention of the two countries to establish a trilateral cooperation mechanism with Greece. They also signed a Joint Communique, pledging to cooperate closer on issues of national importance.

President notes Cyprus’ advantages as investment destination

The challenge is to keep up the momentum and ensure that Cyprus remains on the path of sustainable growth, President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades said on Friday, addressing the 2018 Annual General Meeting of the Cyprus International Business Association (CIBA), in Limassol. Addressing another event, the President said that Cyprus and Russia will continue to enjoy a mutually beneficial economic partnership.

Cyprus and China hold political consultations in Nicosia

Permanent Secretary of the Foreign Ministry of Cyprus, Ambassador Minas Hadjimichael, met on Friday in Nicosia with Wang Chao, China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for political consultations. The two officials discussed regional and international issues, such as EU-China relations, the Middle East, the latest developments in the Korean peninsula and consultations regarding the South China Sea.

Minister: HIV infection rate in the general public in Cyprus is low

HIV infection rate in the general public in Cyprus is low, Minister of Health Konstantinos Ioannou has said. In his address at a press conference on Friday on the occassion of the World AIDS Day, the Minister said that in 2015 and 2016, 80 new incidents were recorded annually, while in 2017 the number increased by five.

Cypriot MP takes part in APA plenary

Member of Parliament and one of the Vice Presidents of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, Nikos Tornaritis, underlined the significance in strengthening exchanges between Europe and Asia and the crucial role which Cyprus can play towards this. EC supports CMP and scholarship program for Turkish Cypriots

The European Union Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community continues to support reconciliation, confidence building and to bringing the Turkish Cypriot community closer to the EU. As part of its support to the Turkish Cypriot community, the European Commission signed two new agreements recently for the EU Scholarship Programme for the Turkish Cypriot Community and the Support to the Committee on Missing Persons.

Demographic report confirms Cyprus’ population is ageing

The share of older individuals in the Cypriot population increased between 2000 � 2017, while that of children registered a decrease, the latest demographic report released by the Statistical Service has shown. The report also showed that the fertility rate dropped further to 1.32 last year, well below the replacement level of 2.10.

Unemployment rate in Cyprus up to 8.5% in October

The unemployment rate in Cyprus was 8.5% in October 2018 (8.1% in males and 8.9% in females), up from 8.4% in September and down from 10.0% in October 2017. According to Eurostat, this corresponds to 37.000 persons, down from 42.000 a year ago.

Surplus increases by Euros 357.4 million in January-October 2018

The surplus of General Government for the period January-October 2018 increased by Euros 357.4 million, according to the preliminary results prepared by the Statistical Service of Cyprus. The surplus increased to Euros 852.8 mn (4.1% of GDP), as compared to a surplus of Euros 495.4 mn for the corresponding period of 2017 (2.5% of GDP).
