President: Our goal is to create a functional and viable state, in line with EU values

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades has assured that his aim is to create a state which will be functional and viable, modern and completely in line with the principles and values of the EU. In his Easter message, President Anastasiades also expressed hope that in the days ahead there will be mutual understanding that will help the sides overcome tension.

Cyprus’ Foreign Minister in Cairo for talks with his Egyptian counterpart

Cyprus’ Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides will hold talks on Tuesday in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, to discuss bilateral issues and tripartite cooperation among Cyprus, Greece and Egypt. Security issues of common interest, developments in Syria and Palestine and countering terrorism would be also part of the agenda.

US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense to discuss bilateral and regional security issues in Cyprus

US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD) for Europe and NATO, Thomas Goffus, will visit Cyprus, on April 11, to discuss bilateral and regional security issues. Goffus will meet with the Minister of Defence Savvas Angelides and other Republic of Cyprus security officials, United Nations’ representatives, and British officials.

Commonwealth Games: Two more gold medals for Cyprus on Monday

Cypriot skeet shooter George Achilleos won on Monday a gold medal, on day five of the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, scoring a three-peat after Melbourne and Glasgow. Also on Monday, gymnast Marios Georgiou came first in men’s parallel bars and secured his second gold medal in the Games. Cyprus won three more medals on Sunday.
