Chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, Congressman Elliot Engel met on Monday with the UNSYG’s Special Representative in Cyprus, Elizabeth Spehar.
Engel, who was in Cyprus as part of a regional trip, also visited the Committee on Missing Persons Anthropological Laboratory, where he was briefed about the committee’s work, a US Embassy press release said.
Congressman Engel, who represents New York’s 16th congressional district, earlier Monday held meetings with President Anastasiades and Foreign and Defense Ministers Christodoulides and Angelides respectively.
He discussed with them increasing bilateral security cooperation, U.S. support for the Republic of Cyprus’ right to develop its natural resources, efforts to resume negotiations on the Cyprus problem, and regional issues.
