Asylum seekers will register in “Pournara”, to alleviate workload at Social Services Office of Lakatamia, Deputy Minister announced

Asylum seekers will hand in their registration applications at “Pournara” Temporary Reception Center, starting Tuesday, in an attempt to alleviate workload at the Social Services Office in Lakatamia, Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Anastasia Anthousi, said on Monday, following a visit at the Office.

She said that additional personnel will be placed at “Pournara” to accommodate the applicants, adding that many of them visit the Lakatamia Office and their applications are incomplete. She said that by registering at “Pournara” the waiting time will be reduced.

Anthousi said that many applicants should not be visiting the Lakatamia Office explaining that their application documents for the Department of Labor, could be sent online.

Asked about the addresses of the people who are released from the “Pournara” Center, Anthousi said that in many cases when documents are asked, ie for rental purposes, no houses exist at the addresses listed on the forms.

The Deputy Minister said that an investigation will be carried out in an attempt to tackle this issue.
