Archbishop Chrysostomos urges all to contribute towards the unity of the nation

The nation is strong and we all need to contribute to maintaining the unity of the nation, pledged Archbishop Chrysostomos II, speaking during a meeting with visiting Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos.

The Greek President is in Cyprus where he attended the memorial service of the late President of the Republic, Tassos Papadopoulos.

In his remarks, Pavlopoulos thanked the Archbishop for his leadership and inspiring the people. He said the struggle for Cyprus and its people for these ideals will continue and it is due to the Archbishop’s contribution both here and in Greece, we are all united as far as the Cyprus problem is concerned. The primate of the orthodox church in Cyprus, he said, has played a decisive role quietly and at the expense of his health, and urged him to take care of his health as the Church and the people need him.

The Archbishop praised President Pavlopoulos’ great contribution, noting that for the first time all leaderships are aligned.

He added, today the nation is strong and all of us ought to contribute to the unity o the nation.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.
