Aoun to Greek Defense Minister: Lieberman’s utterances denote Israel intentions

President Michel Aoun on Monday maintained that the fresh utterances of Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman denoted the enemy’s intentions against Lebanon.

“What Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said clearly reflects the truth of the Israeli intentions,” Aoun told Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos, who visited him at Baabda palace today.

During the meeting, Aoun highlighted the importance of cooperation among states to fight corruption and uncover its secret rings.

“Lebanon encourages cooperation with Greece and Cyprus to enhance maritime safety and security,” he said.

Moreover, he welcomed the upcoming tripartite ministerial meeting between Lebanon, Greece, and Cyprus, stressing on the significance of the Greek participation in Rome conference, devoted to supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces.

Aoun also thanked his guest for Greece’s contribution to the UNIFIL, noting the growing role of the UNIFIL’s maritime component in preserving the Lebanese territorial waters, especially in the exclusive economic zone, that Israel seeks to control before Lebanon launches the offshore oil and gas explorations.

For his part, Kammenos conveyed to his host Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos’ greetings, and hailed his “role in restoring stability in Lebanon and empowering the country to play its role in its neighborhood and the world.”

He also highlighted his country’s keenness on “cooperating with Lebanon in all fields, especially at the military level, in order to provide maritime security to protect the countries from terrorism and the various types of smuggling operations.”

Moreover, he emphasized on the presence of “a will to achieve stability in the region through a series of measures that shall provide the convenient climate for that purpose.”

Kammenos also expressed his country’s “readiness to beef up the military capacities of the Lebanese army.”
