Anastasiades – Biden discuss Cyprus issue, bilateral ties and energy

The course of the UN-backed talks for a solution to the Cyprus problem was the focus of a meeting President Nicos Anastasiades held on Thursday with US Vice President Joe Biden in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Speaking to the press following the meeting, which lasted an hour, Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides said that they discussed the security aspect of the Cyprus negotiations and the need for Cyprus, in the post solution era, to continue to play a role in terms of security in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

They also discussed, the Spokesman said, the need for certain procedures – that were followed in the past, in terms of the negotiation course – to be avoided.
