Anastasiades and Akinci discuss internal aspects of the Cyprus question

Negotiations between Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci on the internal aspects of the Cyprus problem began at 1000 in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

President Anastasiades and the Greek Cypriot negotiating team arrived at the conference centre where the negotiations are taking place almost half an hour earlier, while Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci arrived at 1000. Replying to a question Akinci said that “today is a new day. We shall see what will happen.”

A meeting of deputies regarding the mechanism which will monitor the implementation of the solution is scheduled to take place at 1500.

Cypriot Attorney General Costas Clerides, and two of Anastasiades advisers, Polys Polyviou and Kypros Chrysostomides have, left Crans-Montana due to other professional duties they have.

UN facilitated peace talks began in Crans-Montana last Wednesday to help find a negotiated settlement that would reunite Cyprus, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
