Agriculture Minister to participate in the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council

Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Costas Kadis, departs on Sunday for Brussels, where he will participate in the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council, which will take place on 17 – 18 December.

According to a PIO press release, the Agriculture and Fisheries Council will mainly discuss the Austrian Presidency’s Progress Report on the revision of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) beyond 2020, as well as the EU Strategy for the Bio-Economy, which is the strategy that seeks to improve and to strengthen the sustainable use of renewable resources. Agriculture Ministers will also be briefed on how to deal with the disasters that had affected EU forests last summer and on the need for collective action.

On December 19, Kadis will take part in the Informal Ministerial Meeting to Address African Swine Fever.

On 20 December, in the framework of the Environment Council, Ministers will discuss the long-term EU Strategy to tackle climate change by 2050. Environment Ministers are expected to adopt a comprehensive position for LIFE programme, the financial instrument for the environment and the climate.

Minister Kadis will hold, in the margins of the Council, a meeting with the European Climate Commissioner, Miguel Arias CaAete.
