AFIS has recycled 352 tons of batteries in eight years of operation

Between the years 2009 and 2017 AFIS Cyprus has installed a total of 4,000 recycle bins and has collected 352 tons of batteries, approximately 20,000,000 batteries. It has also invested 1,213,800 euro in its communication strategy trying to raise awareness on the significance of recycle for the environment and the human health.

The Organization, founded in 2009, aims at recycling 45% of the batteries that imported in Cyprus. AFIS organized a press conference on Thursday to brief the public about its actions and accomplishments as well as the difficulties it faces.

A press release issued by the Organization says that the conference was attended by the Deputy Chair of the Environment Committee of the Parliament Charalambos Theopemptou, Volunteer Commissioner Yiannis Yiannaki , Director of Environment Department at the Ministry of Environment Costas Chadjipanayiotou and others.

The Organization was founded on the initiative of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) as an umbrella organization and now its shareholders are companies � importers of batteries liable to the Republic. It represents 203 members, 12 of them are shareholders.
