Acting President of the Republic, President of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris, received on Wednesday representatives from European political parties youth, who are represented at the European Youth Forum.
According to an official press release, the House President spoke about the Cyprus issue, underlying that it is foremost a problem of invasion and occupation and continuous violation of international and European law and human rights of the Cypriot people by Turkey.
He noted Turkeys intrasigence and stance, which hinder the achievement of a solution.
Our side, he went on to say, wishes for a peaceful resolution of the Cyprus problem, to the benefit of all people of Cyprus, which will contribute to stability, peace and prosperity in the wider region.
The House President also referred to the economic situation in Cyprus, which, despite its exit from the memorandum, continues, he stressed, to have high levels of unemployment, especially among the youth.
Referring to the role of Cyprus in the European family and the challenges in the EU, he noted the issues of immigration, refugee crisis and terrorism, saying that Cyprus contributes to the tackling of those challenges in its own constructive way.
Syllouris replied to questions of the participants on the Cyprus issue and on parliamentary diplomacy by the House of Representatives.
