9170 babies born in Cyprus in 2015, but fertility rate decreased by -0.25 points according to eurostat

In Cyprus 9 170 babies were born in 2015, compared to 8167 in 2001, by women of a mean age of 29.5 years, according to data released today by Eurostat. Despite the increase, according to Eurostat the fertility rate has fallen from 1.57 in 2001 to 1.32 in 2015, or -0.25 points. A total fertility rate of around 2.1 live births per woman is considered to be the replacement level in developed countries: in other words, the average number of live births per woman required to keep the population size constant without migration.
