About S4Capital

S4Capital plc (SFOR.L) is the tech-led, new age/new era digital advertising and marketing services company, established by Sir Martin Sorrell in May 2018.

Its strategy is to build a purely digital advertising and marketing services business for global, multinational, regional, local clients, and millennial-driven influencer brands. This will be achieved by integrating leading businesses in three practice areas: Content, Data&digital media, and Technology services, along with an emphasis on “faster, better, cheaper” executions in an always-on consumer-led environment, with a unitary structure.

Digital is by far the fastest-growing segment of the advertising market. S4Capital estimates that in 2021 digital accounted for over 60% (for the first time) or $400-450 billion of total global advertising spend of $680-700 billion (excluding over $500 billion of trade promotion marketing, the primary target of the Amazon advertising platform) and projects that by 2025 total global advertising spend will expand to $975 billion and digital’s share will grow to approximately 70%, accelerated by the impact of covid-19. In fact, 97% of the projected growth in Advertising spend between 2021 and 2025 will come from Digital. Global spend on Digital Transformation (the primary addressable market for Technology Services) is growing at 21% CAGR and projected to be $879bn by 2025.

In 2018, S4Capital combined with MediaMonks, the leading AdAge A-listed creative digital content production company led by Victor Knaap and Wesley ter Haar, and then with MightyHive, the market-leading digital media solutions provider for future thinking marketers and agencies, led by Peter Kim and Christopher S. Martin.

Since then, MediaMonks and MightyHive have combined with more than 25 companies across Content, Data&digital media and Technology services. For a full list, please see the S4Capital website.

In August 2021, S4Capital launched its unitary brand by merging MediaMonks and MightyHive into Media.Monks, represented by a dynamic logo mark that features MightyHive’s iconic hexagon. As the operational brand, Media.Monks underpins S4Capital’s agility, digital knowledge and efficiency and is the next step in delivering on its foundational promise to unify Content, Data&digital media and Technology services.

Victor Knaap, Wesley ter Haar, Pete Kim, Christopher Martin, Mary Basterfield and Scott Spirit all joined the S4Capital Board as Executive Directors. The S4Capital Board also includes Rupert Faure Walker, Paul Roy, Daniel Pinto, Sue Prevezer, Elizabeth Buchanan, Naoko Okumoto, Margaret Ma Connolly, Miles Young and Peter Rademaker.

The Company now has over 8,800 people in 33 countries across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa and Asia-Pacific and a current market capitalisation of approximately £1.75 billion (c.$2.14 billion) and would rank in the FTSE 200. It achieved Unicorn status in a little over one year, unique in the advertising and marketing services industry. Sir Martin was CEO of WPP for 33 years, building it from a £1 million “shell” company in 1985 into the world’s largest advertising and marketing services company with a market capitalisation of over £16 billion on the day he left. Today its market capitalisation is £10.8 billion, dropping into third place behind both Omnicom and Publicis for the first time ever. Prior to that Sir Martin was Group Financial Director of Saatchi & Saatchi Company Plc for nine years.

Cypriot researcher, participating in Solar Orbiter mission revealing the secrets of our star, talks to CNA about his work

The ESA Solar Orbiter mission is observing the Sun like no other mission before, revealing the secrets of our star. In an interview with CNA Cypriot Georgios Nicolaou, Lecturer in Space Plasma Physics at Mullard Space Science Laboratory of University College London, who is involved in this unique space mission, talks about the importance of the mission as well as his participation in the project.

The Solar Orbiter, he said, is a space mission by ESA and with strong participation by NASA, which observes the Sun and studies its complicated mechanisms. He recalled that the spacecraft was launched in February of 2020 and it carries ten scientific instruments that have been developed in several research institutes all over the world.

“I am working at the university and the research laboratory which is responsible for the instrument measuring the Solar electrons. These electron measurements will help in understanding the acceleration and heating mechanisms acting on the Solar material flowing in space,” he told CNA.

The spacecraft, he added, carries cameras which observe the Solar surface in high resolution that was never achieved in previous Solar observations. At the same time, some other instruments onboard the spacecraft measure the magnetic and electric fields in space, while other instruments measure the Solar particles flowing fast in space.

The spacecraft passes very close to the Sun, approaching occasionally one third of the distance between the Sun and the Earth.

“Due to this unique orbit, we can capture extreme details on the Solar surface and witness the complicated mechanisms that create the electromagnetic fields and the particle flows in space, which is what we call “the Solar Wind”,” he explained.

Nicolaou told CNA that the combination of these observations will provide the necessary information we need in order to understand the complicated mechanisms which govern the Sun and interplanetary space.

“This is the first space mission obtaining several remote sensing observations with extreme detail and simultaneous observations of the Solar wind particles and electromagnetic fields. Because of these observations we have an advantage in correlating the Solar activity on the Solar surface with the resulted solar wind in space,” he noted.

“In addition, the combination of Solar Orbiter observations and observations from other spacecrafts, we will be able to monitor and study the revolution of the Solar Wind as it flows away from the Sun expanding in space,” the Cypriot researcher said.

Currently, the scientific groups of the mission are investigating the observations which will allow scientists to answer important scientific questions regarding the Solar activity, the heating of the outer Solar atmosphere and the creation of the Solar Wind.

Nicolaou said that ESA has already published unique images of the Sun captured by Solar Orbiter cameras. He explained that “in these pictures we can see extreme details that we have never seen before.” In addition, a few months ago, a series of published articles show the first observations and discoveries of the mission.

“This research is in constant evolution. Therefore, I believe that we will have major breakthroughs in Solar Physics within the next few years,” he pointed out.

Nicolaou works with the team that leads the operations and the data-analysis of the Solar Wind electron observations.

Asked by CNA about his involvement, he said that “I have developed useful models of the electron instrument which allow the accurate analysis of its observations. In particular, my analysis allows the conversion of the observations to scientific quantities, such as particle speed and temperature, which we need to study the physical mechanisms in space. I have already published articles presenting and explaining this analysis. Moreover, in one of my publications I apply my tools to the first Solar Wind electron observations by Solar Orbiter.”

At the moment, he said, he is coordinating the sophisticated analysis of all the available electron data with researchers from various institutes. The analysis focuses on the production of complete scientific data series which will be available to the entire scientific community.

Nicolaou added that “our task demands a good knowledge of the instrument operations. Although this can be a complicated task, our team can anticipate the difficulties due to our experience in this field. We have already provided data to other teams leading to important discoveries. Some of these discoveries are published in international scientific journals.”

“I am very excited to be one of the first people watching the Sun through Solar Orbiter and to contribute in understanding of the Solar activity mechanisms. For the next years, I am planning to concentrate on scientific analysis, trying to understand various aspects of the Solar activity, always in collaboration with colleagues, researchers and students all over the world,” he concluded.

Deputy Ministry of Research to boost state infrastructure modernisation through MoU signed with AWS

Supporting the modernisation of state infrastructure and speeding up the adoption of cloud services in the public and private sectors of Cyprus are the main aims of a Memorandum of Understanding signed on Tuesday at the Presidential Palace between the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Deputy Minister Kyriacos Kokkinos said after the signing ceremony that collaboration with Amazon Web Services opens up a new era of opportunities for the country, enabling and facilitating cloud adoption across government and industry.

“Leveraging on AWS experience, best practices and expertise, Cyprus aspires to modernise IT infrastructure and policies relevant to the provision of cloud computing services in the areas including, but limited to, security, open data and procurement, as well as enable a cloud-ready workforce and foster cloud-enabled businesses”, he added, stressing that the goal is to accelerate holistic digital transformation, a key lever for a diversified, more sustainable development model that can drive economic growth, international competitiveness and social prosperity.

According to the Deputy Minister, AWS will work closely with the Ministry to provide a technical boost to its workforce through a wide range of upskilling and reskilling training activities, as well as to deploy several government modernisation initiatives, starting with pilots in areas such as smart citizen services, big data and artificial intelligence, as well as “Smart Cities” solutions.

“We set the foundations for an elevated partnership aimed at accelerating our transition to a cloud-driven government and a dynamic digital economy, through modernization, capacity building, innovation and entrepreneurship”, added Kokkinos, characterizing the MoU as “the first step in a long-term, mutually beneficial collaboration, that can contribute significantly to advancing Cyprus’ posture as an emerging regional technology and innovation hub, able to cater to the needs of international ICT businesses.”

On behalf of Amazon Web Services, Director of Europe Public Sector Cameron Brooks said that AWS is part of Cyprus’ digital transformation as the nation ushers in a new area of innovation, with entrepreneurs, public sector organisations and enterprises alike, sharing the vision of a modern digital society.

“Through this MoU we commit our support to this vision, offering initiatives that will foster innovation, help grow local start-ups, support IT modernisation and build digital skills for future generations,” he added.

Brooks also said that a cloud-enabled workforce equipped with the latest and digital skills will be the foundation on which Cyprus can continue to build towards its digital transformation goals, adding that “our AWS education and training programmes are uniquely placed to identify digital reskilling opportunities, providing access to hundreds of hours of self-paced training and resources, as well as online and in-person collaboration and networking opportunities. We are pleased to bring these programmes to Cyprus and aim to kick start AWS cloud education programme very soon”.

In addition, Brooks stressed AWS’ commitment to sustainability. “Energy and the resulting carbon emissions are material issues to our business and are important to our customers and other stakeholders,” he said, adding that “AWS cloud and digital technologies are actively enabling key sectors to decarbonize and become more sustainable.”

According to Brooks, “independent studies show that businesses in Europe can reduce energy use by nearly 80% when they run applications on AWS cloud instead of operating in their own data centers.”

“Our renewable energy teams are making significant progress towards a 100% renewable goal and we are on track to achieve this by 2025, five years earlier than our original goal,” he noted.

The AWS executive said that the company sees this MoU “as a start of a partnership that will see the government of Cyprus realise its digital transformation goals.”

“We look forward to working with both private and public sector entities across Cyprus as the nation moves closer towards the vision of a modern, digitally enable society,” he noted.

Greek PM conveyed Cyprus’ determination for a settlement to Biden, President Anastasiades says

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis conveyed to US President Joe Biden the message that the Cyprus government is determined to work towards a solution, in line with UN resolutions and EU principles, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades said on Tuesday.

Responding to questions at the Presidential Palace, President Anastasiades said he is perfectly content with the discussion between Mitsotakis and Biden about the Cyprus problem, which took place in Washington on Monday.

During his meeting with Joe Biden, Mitsotakis “raised the Cyprus problem, raised the issues that disturb peace or pose a threat to peace in the region” following the coordination between Anastasiades and the Greek Premier during a recent meeting in Athens, the President of Cyprus added.

He also said that Mitsotakis conveyed on his behalf the message to Biden that the Cyprus government is “determined to work towards a solution on the basis of UN resolutions, on Security Council decisions and of course on EU values and principles.”

?he occasion arises due to violations of international law, under the same pretext Turkey used during the 1974 invasion of Cyprus, the President added.

He concluded by saying that he will be informed on the meeting upon the Prime Minister’s return from Washington.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results.
