Cyprus reports 2 deaths and 2,698 new COVID cases, 164 patients in hospitals

Cyprus Health Ministry on Monday announced 2 deaths due to COVID and 2,698 new cases. The number of patients in hospitals is 164 of whom 40 in serious condition. Figures show that 68.91% of the patients are unvaccinated. Total deaths rose to 825 and of cases to 308,917. The positivity rate stands at 2.04%.

The deceased are a female 90 years old who passed away yesterday and a male 80 years old who died today. Of the 40 patients in serious condition 13 are intubated in an ICU and 27 in an ACU. Moreover the Ministry said that 27 patients who are no longer infectious are still intubated in an ICU.

Today a total of 132,177 tests were carried out of which 9,456 were PCR and 342 cases were detected with the positivity rate at 3.62%. Rapid tests were 122,721 and 2,356 came back positive (positivity rate 1.92%). In the framework of contact tracing 389 PCR tests were

Dancing in night clubs allowed with a 24 hour rapid test for all, Health Minister announces

Dancing returns in night clubs and other establishments in Cyprus with a 24 hour rapid test for all, vaccinated and unvaccinated, Health Minister Michalis Hadjiantelas announced on Monday. A decree will be issued tomorrow to set the framework of the new protocol.

The Minister chaired a meeting with the Scientific Advisory Committee and said that in ten days the measure will be reviewed to see whether entrance with a 48 hour rapid test will be allowed for all those who have concluded their vaccination scheme.

Transport Minister pleased with European Commission approval of incentive scheme for airlines affected by the pandemic

Cyprus’ Transport Ministry expressed satisfaction over European Commission’s approval, last week, of a €6.13 million Cypriot incentive scheme geared to support airlines affected by the coronavirus pandemic, having found it to be in line with the State aid Temporary Framework of the EU.

Cyprus supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, says Foreign Minister

Cyprus supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, said Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, in his intervention in the EU Foreign Affairs Council which discussed the security situation in eastern Europe and Russia`s actions against Ukraine.

Kasoulides pointed out the need to use all diplomatic means and dialogue to defuse the crisis and welcomed the efforts by France and Germany and the initiatives by OSCE.

He expressed the hope for normality to return and all parties involved to show a constructive stance for peace and stability to prevail.

Deputy Minister for Tourism sees momentum for direct flights to and from Saudi Arabia

Cyprus Deputy Minister for Tourism Savvas Perdios said there is serious momentum for establishing direct flights to and from Saudi Arabia, stressing that this possibility could unlock the Saudi tourism market for Cyprus.

Perdios visited Jeddah for contacts with local officials and tourist stakeholders aiming to push for a direct flight between the two countries, which Cyprus has sought for three years. He held separate contacts with senior officials from the Saudi Chamber of Commerce and the Civil Aviation as well with air carriers, tour operators and cruise lines offices.

Cyprus-EU sign ‘historic’ agreement on the management of the migration issue

An “historic” Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Republic of Cyprus and the European Union on the migration issue was signed at the Presidential Palace on Monday.

The Memorandum was signed by Minister of Interior, Nicos Nouris, on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus and by European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, on behalf of the EU, in the presence of Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Vice-President of the European Commission (EC), Margaritis Schinas.

The agreement provides actions on three main pillars.
