Foreign Minister expresses Cyprus’ solidarity with people of Lebanon

Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides expressed Cyprus` solidarity with the people of Lebanon addressing the Lebanon donors` conference, hosted by France and the UN, one year after the Beirut port blast.

According to a tweet from the Cyprus Foreign Ministry, Christodoulides reaffirmed the solidarity of Cyprus with the Lebanese people and the importance we attach to the country`s stability, security, sovereignty and prosperity.

Cyprus surpasses one million COVID19 vaccinations, Minister of Health says

Cyprus has surpassed one million COVID19 vaccinations, Minister of Health Michalis Hadjipantelas said on Wednesday.

The Minister, who visited the State Fair Vaccination Center in Nicosia, said that this sends the message that citizens have confidence in health experts, the government and its vaccination programe adding that by the end of September we will have reached the goal of 82% of the population with a vaccination coverage with both doses.

Vaccinations with the first dose have exceeded 74% and the percentage of fully vaccinated is over 66%, he said, adding that given the increased interest in the last days, it is expected that by the end of August 82% will be vaccinated with the first dose and by the end of September with both doses.

Cyprus reports Wednesday one death, 575 new infections, 273 patients hospitalised

The Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday the death of a 59 year old woman to COVID19, brining the total number of deaths to 430, (282 men and 148 women). Their median age is 77.

It also announced that 273 patients are hospitalised, 90 of whom in a serious condition. The vast majority of the patients, 89.02%, are not vaccinated.

In the last 24 hours there have been 61,462 laboratory tests done with the PCR method and the antigen rapid test method and 575 new infections were found, bringing the number of people infected to 103,889. The positivity rate stands at 0.94%.

Out of the 90 patients who are in a critical condition 41 are intubated. In the Famagusta General Hospital there are 65 patients, in Nicosia 92, in Limassol 77, in Larnaka 14, in Pafos 21 and in the Makario Hospital 4 patients.
