Serious thrombotic episode investigated by health authorities in Cyprus

A 39-year-old British woman is being treated in the General Hospital in Nicosia after a serious thrombotic episode.

 

In statements to CNA, Helena Panayiotopoulou, Acting Director of the Pharmaceutical Services of the Ministry of Health, said that the woman was vaccinated on May 6 in Paphos and that the European Medicines Agency has been informed.

 

She added that they are looking into any medication she was receiving, as well as her medical history and that of her family.

More than 5,800 appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations arranged for people aged 61-65 years old

A total of 5,882 appointments, out of the 7,020 that were available, have been arranged via Cyprus Vaccination Portal, for people aged 61-65 years old.

 

The Portal was available so that individuals who belong to this age group could arrange appointments for vaccinations against COVID-19 from Wednesday at 0730 until Thursday at 1730.

 

According to the planning made by the Health Ministry, the Portal will be available for people aged 46-49 years old from Friday at 0730 until Saturday at 1730.

Populations are projected to grow in almost three out of five urban regions of the European Union (EU), whereas they are likely to shrink in four out of five rural regions by 2050. This information comes from the latest population projections of regional demographic patterns across EU countries and the analysis of results from the urban-rural typology perspective, published today by Eurostat, the statistical service of the EU.

 

Between 2019 and 2050, the overall urban population is projected to increase in 15 EU Member States, ranging from +2.

The COVID-19 pandemic offers us a unique opportunity to rebuild a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable recovery, Cyprus Foreign Minister, Nikos Christodoulides said on Thursday, addressing an event organized by the Foreign Ministry and the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, in the framework of promoting Economic Diplomacy and Innovation, with the participation of heads of foreign diplomatic missions in Cyprus .

 

Christodoulides noted that “as the world starts to rebuild, we should be focusing on deepening cooperation on health, technology, trade and climate change. We believe Economic Diplomacy can play an instrumental role towards that effect,” he added.

Returning Offier explains voting procedure, as election campaign continues

Two COVID-19 patients die on Thursday, 77 new cases traced, 134 people hospitalised

Two COVID-19 patients died on Thursday, while 77 new coronavirus cases were detected, with a positivity rate of 0.16%, Cyprus Health Ministry announced. A total of 134 COVID-19 patients are treated in hospital. The situation of 48 of them is critical.

 

The number of patients who have lost their lives is now 350, while the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases has reached 71,610.

 

A total of 49,364 tests were conducted using the PCR method and antigen rapid tests.

 

The two patients who died on Thursday are a 97 year old man who passed away in Nicosia General Hospital and a 89 year old woman who passed away in Larnaca General Hospital.

 

Out of the 350 patients who have died, 232 are men (66%) and 118 are women (34%). Their median age is 77.5 years old.

Cyprus’ Paralympic Medalist Karolina Pelendritou wins silver medal at World Para Swimming – European Open Championships

Cyprus` Paralympic Medalist Karolina Pelendritou won a silver medal at World Para Swimming – European Open Championships in Madeira, Portugal.

 

According to a press release by Limassol Nautical Club, Pelendritou won the medal at 100m breaststroke with 1:18.36, just 0.11 from the swimmer who won the gold.

 

Pelendritou has showed she is in an excellent condition and ready for the Tokyo Paralympic Games, the press release says.
